Campaign to Sustain
The Need
- Remember The Globe in 1999: inconsistent quality, little
audience, months of a dark theatre annually, little documented
tourism and few grants.
- Board leadership envisioned something better and aided by Meadows Grant
($100,000 over three years) brought Artistic Leadership in late
2000
- 2001- a season of 5 Globe productions and one Sul Ross
production
- 2002- a season of 6 Globe productions and one sul Ross
production
- 2002- re-establishment of The Southwest Shakespeare Festival
- From 2003 to present, The Globe has brought about $1.75
million into the community in HUD funding spent directly on
bricks and mortar, the theatre is in much better shape, the
garden is glorious and we have a rehearsal hall that still needs
outfitting
- 2004- establishment of annual Student Matinee production of
Romeo & Juliet in addition to a full community theatre
season and The Southwest Shakespeare Festival
- 2005- Globe Artistic leaders invited to dinner at The White
House and The Southwest Shakespeare Festival receives its first
grant form The National Endowment for the Arts
- From 2003 to 2006, The Globe collaborated on productions
with Midland Community Theatre, Midland College, Spanish
Literature Society and UPI.
- From 2007 to the present, The Globe has collaborated
annually on an opera with the Odessa College music department
- In 2008, Globe staff began working to re-establish a drama
program at OC and are now teaching four courses each year
- In 2009 The Globe was awarded its fourth grant from The
National Endowment for the Arts for The 2010 Southwest
Shakespeare Festival and was one of two theatres in the state to
receive NEA funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment
Act for a total of $65,000 in Federal funding for programs
- 2010 Current grant funding stands at approximately $120,000
We have progressed as far as we can with current staff levels.
